A spoon full of cinnamon help the coffee go down.

I have never liked the taste of coffee so I have never been a big coffee drinker, but as I have been trying to cut down on the sugar free Red Bulls due to them emptying my wallet faster than I can fill it, I decided to give coffee with a spoon full of cinnamon a try. The verdict is that I love it. It somehow masks that awful coffee bite and made it quite enjoyable. so looks like I will get my caffeine fix in the mornings after all.

My Butt Hurts!

Decided to go and buy a bike this weekend. I have been watching my youngest, Hailee, ride her bike round and round the cul-de-sac for weeks now. I started thinking about how I do this whole Karate thing with my oldest and haille just didn't really like it. She was doing it more because we were all doing it. Well I mentioned the possibility of getting a bike and her eyes lit up at the thought of riding around our neighborhood together, so I bit the bullet and headed on up to Dick's Sporting Goods with her and bought myself this nice mountain bike. When we got back, her and I proceeded to take an hour and a half trip up to Turkey Lake Park up the street from us. It was a lot of fun and I look forward to more rides with her. Although my butt is not very happy with the whole deal. I need to find a better seat. Ouch!

The 4 Hour Body's Slow Carb Diet Continues

I am into my 4th week on the diet and seemed to have hit a plateau on the weight loss, well that is until you look at all the numbers, then it is staggering at just how much fat I appear to have lost. 29 LBS of fat! Now I know these Biometric scales are not the most accurate, but from what I read they are decent at recording changes over time, and even if I take into account a few percentages for water fluctuations, I am still at over 20 lbs in three weeks. I would say so far so good, and damn good enough to keep me going.

One thing I have learned is that the morning is not the best time to weigh myself as I appear to be too dehydrated to get accurate numbers, so I have opted to just weigh myself later in the day and just keep an eye on water levels as well.

As far as the diet itself I have not had much trouble sticking to it. I rarely get cravings for anything in particular now and if I do, I simply add it to my mental list of things to eat on Saturday. Actually I find myself having to force myself to eat as I am not really hungry that often. I am thinking that might have something to do with my workouts, for even though the diet is presented without having to workout, I am working out like a madman at the moment. 6 times last week, and the workouts at my dojo just keep ramping up. Last night was a solid 50 minutes of 3 minute intervals switching from bag work to jump roping with some alternate exercises such as squat jumps thrown in. I truly hit the brink of death last night, and my body feels like a furnace today, so It will be interesting to see the numbers as I continue.

Still a long way to go to hit 220 though.

Oh yeah, one last note. I also decided to introduce a little cottage cheese into my diet this week, so breakfast has been 3 organic eggs and about half a cup of cottage cheese. In the spirit of 4 hour body, you could say I am doing a little experimenting of my own. The only thing I am confused on is the whole eating carbs or fruit or whatever within a half hour of strength training. Guess I need another read through the book to help try and clear that up.

And another note. Since the number vary so drastically. I decided to change the total to a rolling 3 day total. So it now averages the last 3 weigh ins to give me a more accurate picture of my progress.

Cheat Day the Aftermath.

Cheat day was legend... wait for it, wait for it... Dary! Ok, so not so much a big deal as I thought it was going to be. Started with the high protein omelet breakfast as I am supposed to and apparently this killed my appetite as I ended up skipping IHOP and having ice cream for lunch and then a normal non-diet dinner. And how did it destroy my diet?? Oh, added 2 lbs first thing in the next morning and throughout various times of the day my weight got up to as high as 292. But with todays weigh in I am back down to 288, so we will see if I am back to 286 tomorrow and continue to loose beyond that. OK, time for black eyed peas and kale, stir fry steak, and peas and carrots! yum!

Yeah Cheat Day!

It is finally here, the day I have been dreaming of all week. Nope, couldn't care less about the new year, and nope don't give a hoot about the weekend. nope it is my first cheat day on the new diet. As per the regiment I started off with a tall glass of ice water and then did an unofficial weigh in at 286 (285 before the water) for a total of 7 lbs this week. Woot! Nice to be on a diet where you actually see results.

I started off my cheat day with a high protein egg white omelet as I am supposed to so only an hour left before I hit my planned meals for the day including:

Red Bull.
Entiments Doughnuts
IHOP
Oreo Cookies
Beans and cornbread
Mac and Cheese
MILK
Cup Cakes.

Am going to try and remember to document it all somehow, but with my phone being murdered it will be hard so we will see.

oh god, again?

OK, so I am so sick of beans that I want to projectile vomit at the mere thought of them. Funny thing is that I am fine once i start eating, it is just the initial thought that is killing me at this point. This morning was really hard, so i just threw some egg whites and kidney beans in Tupperware containers and threw them in the microwave for 2 and 3 minutes ending up with what you see below.

I also started taking all the drugs that are recomended including:

  • Vitiman B Complex
  • Policosanol
  • Alpha-lipoic Acid
  • Green Tea Flavonols
  • Aged Garlic Extract.
So far taking the vitamins and other herbs sucks because the tear up my stomach, but I took them right before breakfast this morning to see if that will help. So we will see.

yet another breakfast

Starting day three with the below breakfast; Egg whites, kidney beans, Salsa, tomatoes, and cucumber. The meals themselves have been pretty good although the black eyed peas need something to flavor them, not quite sure what yet, but they taste rather like cat vomit.

The kidney beans are really good with salsa and black beans are of course good with a little garlic and vinegar. The strongest thing about it all is that I am only ever really hungry in the evening but am never satisfied. I may feel comfortably full, but always feel the need to go get a cookie, potato chip, etc. But anytime those cravings hit I just add them to my mental list of things I am going to eat on Sunday. So far my plans are for IHOP in the morning and pizza for dinner with lots of bread in between.

Weighed in today with the following:

Weight: 290.6
Fat: 48.6
Water: 34.2
Bone: 8.2

Holy cow! That is about 5 pounds of fat, with a gain of almost half pound of muscle? I wonder how accurate this is?

Starting my new diet

Today marks the start of my new training routine as well as the new slow carb diet to accompany it. Just a quick post to document my breakfast pictured here (Egg whites with salsa, black beans with garlic powder and vinegar, and carrots).

My Starting numbers are as follows:

Weigh: 292.4
Fat %: 50
Water %: 34%
Muscle %: 33.8
Bone: 8.2

These were taken 30 minutes after waking and after 32oz of water.

My Training will also change. I am reading a great new book, The Four Hour Body, and will be trying out a lot of things from it as well as focusing on making sure my next belt test does not kill me. I barely made it through my orange belt test and the fact that I no longer have access to weights I will be doing a more CrossFit style workout. But more on that later as I experiment and figure out my routine.

I did however purchase a Weider power Tower to do Pullups, dips, and knee raises on. Found it at Walmart for a hundred bucks, so can't wait for that to arrive. Below is a picture of it. I am looking into getting some dumbbells and kettlebells, but have yet to find a good deal on them yet.
